for your case, there is a function
DS_1.isResultSetEmpty()
perhaps this helps.
the other / perhaps better way would be to create a data source on query with variable which is calculated by customer exit - and the query results with members which are user dependent.
then you can use simple getData() function to check if some member is returned and react in script.
if too short, ask.
