You will not have reference cost element for ANY G/L accounts which are maintaining in Post Rules, I think OKG6 or 5 or 8 (Do not recall exactly) this will never have Cost element because otherwise cost object will go in infinite loop.

Secondly to have cost element or not is business choice, in our organization we do not have Bad Debts in Cost element because we never track that cost at object level but at Profit Center level.

To have reference as cost element or not is more of business decision depending on how they wanted to control. None the less not having CE would mean reconciliation of Profit between FI and CO
